U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., is recovering from a stroke on Saturday, his office said Sunday.

"He was transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring and is responding well to treatment. The doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic he will make a full recovery," his office said in a statement.

Murphy was active on social media Saturday prior to the hospitalization.

On X, Murphy wrote, "Good morning. Happy Halloween. Donald Trump is the most corrupt president in our nation's history. There's no close second. Go vote."

He also took time on Friday to knock on doors in Fairfield with Gov. Ned Lamont, according to a photo he shared on X.

Lamont said on Sunday, "Just two days ago, I was with Senator Chris Murphy doing what he loves most: encouraging Connecticut residents to make their voices heard and vote on Tuesday. There is no stronger advocate for our democracy, and no one who fights harder for the people of this state. Chris is a great friend to Connecticut and to me personally, and Annie and I are keeping him and his family in our prayers. I am sure that he will be walking across the state again very soon, and we will all be cheering him on."

Politico reports that Murphy could be considered a Democratic presidential candidate, who has been traveling the country supporting candidates. He recently visited Michigan, Florida and Minnesota, according to Politico.

Murphy has been a senator since 2013 and last won reelection in 2024. Each summer, Murphy walks the entire state of Connecticut to meet residents.

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal said on X, "Thinking of my great friend & colleague, Chris Murphy. I know how fiercely he fights & I'm certain I'll be welcoming him back to the Senate soon."

State Sen. Ryan Fazio, who is the GOP candidate for governor, said, "I am keeping Sen. Murphy and his family in my prayers during this challenging moment and wish him a full and speedy recovery."
