The animal wandered from the intersection of Buckley Hill and Thompson Hill Road, ran down Thompson Hill Road and ended up in a backyard, according to the town's Facebook page. Animal control officers then apprehended it.

As of 2:30 p.m., Animal Control Officer Nicole Raymond said officials know who the emu belongs to and they were waiting for them to come pick it up.

"It is safe, comfortable and being well cared for," officials said.
