NEW BRITAIN, CT — The deaths of a local married couple found with gunshot wounds on Tuesday have been ruled as a homicide and suicide, officials said.

Her husband, John Dark, 44, died from a gunshot wound of the head, and his death was ruled a suicide, the medical examiner's office said.

Police responded to a residence on Roxbury Road Tuesday around 8:20 a.m., after receiving a report of a possible suicide.

Officers then found Amanda Dark in a bedroom suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, and she was pronounced deceased on scene, according to police.

Police said detectives determined the incident also involved her husband, John Dark. His vehicle was found at the Silver Lake boat launch in Berlin, and police found him inside the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lt. Jared Barsaleau of the New Britain Police Department at 860-826-3131.

Mayor Bobby Sanchez said the city is "heartbroken" by the tragedy.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the family, their loved ones, and everyone in our community touched by this loss," he said.

The mayor's office urged anyone who doesn't feel safe at home to contact CT Safe Connect at 888-774-2900 or visit ctsafeconnect.org.
