Bristol Police Launch Probe Following Reports Of Toxic Substances At Dog Park

BRISTOL, CT — Police are investigating after receiving reports of toxic substances at a local dog park.

Lt. Patrick Krajewski on Friday said officers are in the early stages of looking into the reports.

Visitors to the B.A.R.K. Park, an off-leash dog park at Rockwell Park, have reported finding items such as dried beans, motor oil, and coffee grounds, according to social media posts.

Ruby White wrote in a post on the Facebook page, Bristol Talks For Everyone, that she visited the park and found dried beans.

“Was just at BARK park at Rockwell and someone threw dried beans all over the large dog side,” White said. “As far as I know dried beans are highly toxic for dogs to ingest.”

“Please beware for toxic things if you bring your dogs here,” White added.

According to veterinarians, uncooked beans, coffee grounds and motor oil are all harmful substances for dogs if ingested.

Desmond's Army Animal Law Advocates, a Connecticut animal welfare organization, wrote on Facebook, “Unfathomable! If done intentionally...whoever it is should be prosecuted to the fullest.”
