Casey Tears Up TPC to Lead Travelers Championship

The Brit fired an 8-under par 62 to take a four-stroke advantage heading into Sunday's final round.

CROMWELL, CT — Paul Casey has been thissss close to winning the Travelers Championship in the past, with a pair of top-5 finishes in the last three years, so he obviously feels the course at TPC River Highlands is suited to his game.

That feeling was fully evident Saturday, as the 40-year-old Englishman recorded seven birdies and an eagle in a bogey-free round of 62 to claim a four-shot lead heading into Sunday's final round.

Casey birdied holes 2, 3, 8 and 9 to make the turn in 31, then birdied 13 before driving the green at the par-4 15th and draining a 23-foot eagle putt. He finished his round in style by registering another birdie at the finishing hole.

He is seeking to avenge the disappointment of 2015, when he tied for the lead in regulation play but lost in a playoff to two-time champion Bubba Watson.

"It was just one of those days, so very, very happy, and glad to be in the lead," Casey said in a post-round press conference. "It's a championship I'd really like to win, having gotten close a couple years ago and losing in the playoff to Bubba Watson. It's one I feel like I can win, and I'm really happy to be in the position I'm in."

He will tee off at 2 p.m. Sunday, paired with Russell Henley, who stands alone in second place at 12-under after a third-round 67.

Second-round leader Brian Harman (69), four-time PGA TOUR winner J.B. Holmes (65) and Anirban Lahiri of India (65) all tied for third at 11-under. Watson and Jason Day head a group of five players another stroke back at -10.
