MANCHESTER, CT — A gorgeous early November afternoon produced ideal conditions for some terrific racing by some of Connecticut's best high school runners at the CIAC State Open cross country championships.

Glastonbury swept the girls race, using a first-place individual placement by Brooke Strauss to compile 65 points and easily capture the team title over the 131 by runner-up New Milford. The Guardians, which last week won the Class LL title for the second straight year, won the Open for the fifth time overall, but first since 2017.

On the boys' side, a pair of top 6 placements lifted 2-time defending Class LL champion Hall to 86 points, besting runner-up Ridgefield's 113. The victory was the first Open title for the Titans.
