CIAC High School Hockey Semifinals And Finals Slated For Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, CT — In 2022, for the first time, all three CIAC boys ice hockey championship games took place at the M&T Bank Arena on the campus of Quinnipiac University. This March, more high school teams will get to experience playing on the ice which is home to the number one ranked college team in the country, as the CIAC will also conduct its six state semifinal games at the arena’s Frank Perrotti Jr. Rink.

A written statement from the CIAC reads, "Feedback from schools and spectators was overwhelmingly positive and it was a natural next step for the CIAC and Quinnipiac to discuss expanding their partnership with the intention of giving more Connecticut high school hockey players a first-class experience."

An 8-day stretch in mid-March will be teeming with high school competition, with nine games being contested following this schedule:

  • Monday, March 13 – Division III semifinals
  • Tuesday, March 14 – Division II semifinals
  • Wednesday, March 15 – Division I semifinals
  • Thursday, March 16 – Division III final
  • Monday, March 20 – Division II final
  • Tuesday, March 21 – Division I final

"The CIAC is thrilled that it will be returning to Quinnipiac University for the 2023 Ice Hockey Championships," CAS-CIAC Executive Director Glenn Lungarini said. "CIAC’s partnership and collaboration with Quinnipiac in 2022 was extremely positive and the outcome was an extraordinary experience for the student-athletes competing in last year's championships. The CIAC is grateful for the willingness of Quinnipiac’s dedicated staff and administration to extend the privilege of playing in M&T Bank Arena to this year's semifinal and championship games."

Defending champions are Notre Dame-West Haven (I), Wethersfield (II) and the Newington co-op (III).
