Class Champions Crowned In CIAC Girls Volleyball Tournaments

Four state champions were decided in championship matches Saturday at East Haven High School.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Four volleyball championship matches were contested Saturday at East Haven High School, with three ending in shutouts but the other featuring an improbable comeback from seemingly insurmountable odds.

In Class LL, Darien swept to its state record 18th championship with a 3-0 win over Trumbull. Game scores were 25-20, 25-10 and 25-15. The title was the Blue Wave's first since 2014.

Joel Barlow posted its second Class L title since 2018 by shutting out Bristol Central, 3-0. Game scores were 25-13, 25-20 and 25-23. The Rams were making their first-ever appearance in the finals.

Fourth-seeded RHAM took down No. 2 Woodland in Class M by a 3-0 count. Game scores were 25-13, 25-20 and 25-21. Last year, the Raptors won the title in Class L.

Class S featured the only non-shutout of the day, as East Hampton came back from two sets down against second-seeded Hale Ray before prevailing, 3-2. Game scores were 19-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-14 and 15-8. The Bellringers were making their first appearance in a state title contest, while the Noises sought their first state crown in 40 years.
