Here's Where Connecticut Lands On Taxes Rankings

With tax season upon us, WalletHub examined which states are paying the highest and lowest taxes.

CONNECTICUT — If you think you're paying more taxes than the average US household, you're probably right, at least according to one study. A new report from personal finance site WalletHub found Connecticut has the third highest taxes in the country.

Only New York and Illinois have higher taxes. Those in Connecticut pay nearly 34 percent more than the median US household.

The study examined real estate tax, vehicle property tax, income tax, and sales & excise tax to compare states with each other.

WalletHub noted that while there's plenty of attention paid to income taxes, this doesn't always accurately reflect a state's tax burden. One example is Washington state. Residents don't pay an income tax but still spend over 8 percent of their annual income on sales and excise taxes.

Texas residents also don’t pay income tax, but they spend 1.63 percent of their income on real estate taxes, one of the highest rates in the country.
