CT Ranked Among Safest COVID-19 States: Town-By-Town Updates

Reported COVID-19 cases and deaths are down, but hospitalizations and the state positive test rate is trending upward, according to DPH.

CONNECTICUT — Reported COVID-19 cases and deaths are down, but hospitalizations and the state positive test rate trended upward in the latest weekly report from the Department of Public Health.

Connecticut reported 3,329 cases over seven days, a positive test rate of 10.64 percent and 15 new COVID-19 deaths. There were 352 COVID-19 patients in hospitals as of Thursday, which was a net 23-patient increase compared with last Thursday.

The U.S. has averaged about 390 daily COVID-19 deaths since mid-July, according to the CDC. New COVID-19 hospital admissions have fallen from a seven-day average of 6,059 in early August to 5,581 from Aug. 17-23.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has dropped the COVID-19 alert level in New London County to "low." Hartford, Tolland and Windham have been raised to "medium," which is where Litchfield, Fairfield, New Haven and Middlesex have remained for another week.

All those positively trending statistics, along with the state population's high vaccination rate, make Connecticut the 5th safest state during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to personal finance website WalletHub.

In Connecticut, 95 percent of residents have been jabbed at least once, and just under 81 percent have completed their vaccine series. Over 53 percent of the population have been boosted, according to the CDC.

Vaccination rates were one of five key metrics used by WalletHub in its analysis. The other four were the level of COVID-19 community transmission, the rates of positive testing, hospitalizations and deaths.

WalletHub analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia for "COVID Safety." Here are the Top Ten:

At the bottom of WalletHub's survey were Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, West Virginia and Louisiana.
