Coronavirus CT: Lamont Wants Full Federal Reimbursement For Costs
The state has spent about $500 million on the new coronavirus response already and will likely spend $1.5 billion in total, Lamont said.
HARTFORD, CT — Gov. Ned Lamont is asking President Donald Trump to increase the federal reimbursement rate from 75 percent to 100 percent for COVID-19-associated costs that Connecticut has incurred.
Trump approved a major disaster declaration for Connecticut, which will allow the state and local governments to get 75 percent reimbursement of eligible coronavirus expenses.
“The size and scope of this public health emergency is unprecedented,” Lamont said. “The president has acknowledged this in declaring a major disaster in every state in the nation. If approved, this request would bring much needed additional financial assistance to the state and our municipalities.”

“On behalf of the people of Connecticut, I am very appreciative of the economic support actions taken in Washington, in the form of the CARES Act and the Families First Act,” Lamont said in his letter to Trump. “These Acts will bolster the economic recovery of individuals and businesses. Providing 100% Federal 3 reimbursement for Category B costs and direct Federal assistance will provide similar economic support to a third critical component of recovery – local, state, and tribal governments and their eligible private non-profit providers.”
