Coronavirus CT: Positive Test Rate Highest Since May
The spike in the coronavirus rate reflects 1,524 new cases during a 24-hour period.
CONNECTICUT — The state Department of Public Health reported Tuesday Connecticut's coronavirus positivity rate rose to 6.74 percent, the highest since May.
The spike reflects 1,524 new confirmed cases during the 24-hour period prior, factored against 22,612 tests for the virus in the same period.
A total of 82,987 Connecticut residents have contracted COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

The sudden jump in the positivity rate comes one day after pharmaceutical giant Pfizer announced its coronavirus vaccine was 90 percent effective in trials.

The successful tests are the precursor to what Gov. Ned Lamont said would be the "largest vaccination effort in the history of the world."
In the meantime, the virus continues to put more people in the hospital. Another 52 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19, bringing the total to 548.
The state also reported another nine coronavirus deaths, increased the state's death toll to 4,707.

2. Danbury: 83
3. Waterbury: 77
4. Hartford: 76
5. Stamford: 69
6. New Britain: 52
7. Norwalk: 40
8. Southington: 39
9. Meriden: 36
10. Wallingford: 31
