The cumulative number of deaths among nursing home residents is based upon data reported by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. For public health surveillance, COVID-19-associated deaths include persons who tested positive for COVID-19 around the time of death (laboratory-confirmed) and persons whose death certificate lists COVID-19 disease as a cause of death or a significant condition contributing to death (probable). The cumulative number of residents with confirmed COVID-19 is obtained from data reported by individual assisted living facilities to the Long Term Care Mutual Aid Plan web-based reporting system.
Mag Morelli, president of LeadingAge Connecticut; Matt Barrett, president and CEO of the Connecticut Association of Health Care Facilities; and Christopher Carter, president of the Connecticut Assisted Living Association, released a statement on the nursing home weekly COVID-19 statistics:

"We again express the importance of understanding that the spread of COVID-19 is a reflection of the pernicious character of the virus and is in no way a reflection of the quality of the health care facility - or the care it provides. The people served by these providers are typically more vulnerable to the virus that is COVID-19 and we need to support both nursing home and assisted living communities in their efforts to provide compassionate care in this relentless fight. The ongoing and extraordinary efforts of the employees of Connecticut’s nursing homes and assisted living communities in this battle against COVID- 19 must be recognized."
