CT Among States People Are Most Interested In Leaving, Survey Finds

Connecticut is one of the lowest in the country when it comes to net migration. A recent study listed it as the No. 9 state people are leaving across the country.

A ConsumerAffairs survey found that 821 people were interested in moving to the Nutmeg State but 1,334 people wanted to move away, representing a net migration score of -513.

The analysis is based on data from 100,377 ConsumerAffairs users who expressed interest in moving to another state over the last year.

California was the state more people wanted to leave than any other, with 7,165 more people wanting to move away from the state rather than move to it.

Here are the top 10 states residents are leaving:

3. New Jersey
4. Maryland
5. Washington
6. Massachusetts
7. Virginia
8. Illinois
9. Connecticut
10. Colorado

On the flip side of the coin, Florida topped the survey of most desired states, with 4,269 more people wanting to move there than to leave.

“We’re seeing a major shift toward the South,” Leticia Cruz, a realtor based in Celebration, Florida, told ConsumerAffairs. “Buyers can often sell high in the Northeast or West and buy more home for their money here. Combine that with lower taxes, more space, and a slower pace of life, and it becomes a very compelling move.”
