CT Coronavirus Hospitalizations Double In Past 2 Weeks

COVID-19 cases overall continue to climb at a rate in excess of a thousand per day.

CONNECTICUT — The number of patients newly hospitalized with the coronavirus in Connecticut continues to climb. The state Department of Public Health reported 33 more beds were filled in the past 24 hours.

"We have doubled the number of people in hospitals related to COVID in the last two weeks," Gov. Ned Lamont said during a news conference on Thursday. That number now stands at 617.

Cases overall continue to climb at a rate in excess of a thousand per day. Over 1,150 cases were confirmed Wednesday, bringing the total number in the state to 85,899.

"We knew November was going to be a complicated month," Lamont said. He is encouraging all college students to get tested before returning home for Thanksgiving.

As of Wednesday, 2,657,798 residents have been tested for COVID-19 since the pandemic began. Another 24,001 were tested on Wednesday, according to the DPH.

Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former head of the US Food & Drug Administration answered questions along with Lamont on Thursday. He forecast a "very difficult two or three months" until the worst of the pandemic was finally behind Connecticut.

Another 10 residents have died from COVID-19-associated ailments, bringing the death toll in the state to 4,726

The towns with the most new cases reported Wednesday were:

1. Hartford: 86

2. Waterbury: 63

3. Danbury: 47

4. Bridgeport: 46

5. New Haven: 36

6. Fairfield: 32

7. Milford: 32

8. New Britain: 29

9. Bristol: 28

10. Wallingford: 28

2. Hartford: 406

4. Stamford: 371
