CT Coronavirus Positivity Rate Trends Back Up Over 7.4%

CONNECTICUT — Another 40 coronavirus-associated deaths were reported on Wednesday, which brought the state total up to 5,506.

Hospitals in Connecticut had a net drop of 15 coronavirus patients, bringing the total down to 1,254 beds statewide. Gov. Ned Lamont called the hospitalization rate "controlled" during a Wednesday afternoon news conference.

Lamont said the state has vaccinated 350 people since the medicine was first made available on Monday. The first shipment of the coronavirus vaccine has been delivered, and will not be disrupted by the nor'easter forecast for this week. Vaccination of nursing home residents will begin as scheduled on Friday, Lamont said.

The daily coronavirus positive test rate which had been trending slightly downward over the past few days spiked up to 7.41 percent. Lamont has said the state's positivity rate, although comparing very favorably with those in the rest of the country, is still discouraging overall.
