CT Couple Suspected In Child's Death Have Been Arrested: Police

BRISTOL, CT — A Bristol couple has been arrested and both people are facing charges after being accused in the death of a two-year-old child that took place in January, the Bristol Police Department said Tuesday.
The incident was reported on the afternoon of Jan. 9, when police said they were told that the toddler had fallen down the stairs and was unresponsive.
The child was given CPR, at which point responding officers discovered that he or she had "a significant amount of abnormal injuries," police said. The child was then rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

"After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the child did not fall down a flight of stairs, but was instead the victim of physical abuse over a period of time, ultimately resulting in the death of the child," according to police.
Alyjah Almodovar, 21, was arrested on July 8 and is facing charges of risk of injury to a child and intentional cruelty to a person, police said. She was held on a court-set $100,000 bond. Luis Dejesus, 24, was arrested Friday and is facing charges of first-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, risk of injury to a child, intentional cruelty to a person, and false statement. He was held on a court-set $1,000,000 bond.
