CT Gas Prices Drop Slightly As Global Oil Markets Shift: AAA

Connecticut drivers are seeing a small break at the pump this week, with the average price for regular gas falling 4 cents to $4.04, according to AAA.

The price was $4.08 a week ago. AAA Northeast reported that today’s price is 28 cents higher than a month ago, when the average was $3.76, and $1 higher than this day last year, when it was $3.04.

Prices vary slightly by county, with Fairfield County at $4.11, Windham County at $4.07, Tolland County at $4.05, Hartford and Litchfield counties both at $4.04, New London County at $4.02, New Haven County at $4.01 and Middlesex County at $4.00.

AAA Northeast said pump prices across the region have been easing as oil and gas markets react to changing expectations about when the war with Iran will end.

Oil prices fell about 10% by the close of markets on Friday after Iran announced it was reopening the Strait of Hormuz to tanker traffic, according to AAA.

“While recent declines in pump prices might be encouraging to see, significant uncertainty will loom over petroleum markets for the duration of the conflict in the Middle East,” said Lauren Fabrizi, spokesperson for AAA Northeast.

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular gas also was $4.04 on April 20, down 8 cents from last week’s $4.12, according to AAA Northeast.

Connecticut ranked 14th among the states with the highest gas prices in the nation.
