CANTERBURY, CT — Two more Connecticut residents have been arrested in connection with the pro-Trump riot at U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, bringing the number of Constitution State residents arrested to six.

Canterbury residents Carla Krzywicki, 19, and her mother, Jean Lavin, 56, were charged Tuesday with the following (see the criminal complaint below):

  • Entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds
  • Disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds
  • Disorderly conduct in a capitol building
  • Parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a capitol building

"Beginning on or about January 6, 2021, the FBI received a tip from Complainant-1 regarding individuals later identified as Jean LAVIN and her daughter, Carla KRZYWICKI, having been inside the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021," wrote an unnamed FBI agent in the Statement of Facts document below. "The tip included photographs from KRZYWICKI’s Facebook account showing LAVIN and KRZYWICKI posing outside the U.S. Capitol and a photograph taken inside the U.S.Capitol, as depicted below."

In the photo, both Krzywicki and Lavin are seen wearing Trump hats, and Krzywicki wrote in the caption, "this is history. we do not go burning down your city and stealing from your business. we come for the government officials that are ruining our country. we go straight to the source. change needs to happen. that is our house and you work for us."

On Jan. 6, a mob of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, injuring dozens of Capitol police officers and others, and causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to the building. Five people eventually died as a result of the attack.

The FBI tracked both Krzywicki and Lavin to the Capitol through their cell phones, which pinged cell towers in that area on that day. Both admitted that the phone numbers in question were theirs, the FBI said.

"The FBI reviewed open-source video that shows LAVIN and KRZYWICKI climbing a bike rack that rioters had repurposed from barricades to ladders and placed against the Capitol terraces, allowing them to access the Capitol building," the agent wrote, adding that the bureau also spotted the two in other video footage inside the Capitol building.

Lavin also was seen carrying a two-sided sign that read "Trump Won" on one side, and "Don’t allow 7 states of cheaters to hijack our election!" on the other.

The two were interviewed by the FBI in Connecticut on June 15, and they told agents that they had taken a bus to the Capitol that day that originated in Norwich, and had been arranged by an unnamed Facebook group.

They said they didn't get to the Capitol until after then-President Donald Trump's speech, but admitted that they had entered the Capitol building — twice — "just to look around out of curiosity."

The two left the building after Lavin fell, Krzywicki told the agents.

To date, two Groton residents, one Harwinton man, and one Ridgefield man are the other Connecticut residents who also have been charged in connection with the Capitol riot.

Krzywicki and Lavin were scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert A. Richardson in Hartford on Tuesday.
