CT Power Outages Town-By-Town: Over 8,700 Without Power

More than 8,700 are still without power as a Nor'Easter continues to blow its way through Connecticut.

CONNECTICUT — Over 8,700 homes and businesses are without power as the state enters its second day of a Nor'Easter. The number of residents in the dark has been dropping steadily throughout early Tuesday evening, from a high over 13,400 in the late afternoon.

That trend could easily reverse itself, as wind gusts may approach 50 mph Tuesday night.

In Litchfield County, where most of the power outages are, a winter storm warning remains in effect until 8 a.m. Wednesday, and 1-3 more inches of snow are forecast. In Hartford County, a winter storm warning is in effect until 8 a.m. Wednesday with an additional 1–2 inches in the valley and 2–4 inches in higher elevations near the Litchfield County line.

In interior sections of Fairfield and New Haven counties, a winter weather advisory is in effect until 3 a.m. Wednesday as 2–4 inches of snow is forecast to accumulate, and some higher elevations could see 5–8 inches.

"This is a complex storm with different conditions and challenges depending on the location,” said Eversource President of Connecticut Electric Operations Steve Sullivan in a statement released late Tuesday afternoon.

Lineworkers from as far away as Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas are working alongside Eversource crews.

"The storm also caused slippery travel making it more challenging for our crews to get to damage locations and restore power," Sullivan said. "The high winds can make it unsafe for crews to immediately go up in the buckets to restore power."

Eversource is reporting 8,783 customers in the dark at 7:30 p.m., while 30 United Illuminating customers are without power.
