CT Power Outages Town-By-Town: 8,000 Without Power Tuesday

Eversource: "Potential for strong winds to cause additional outages will persist through the day."

CONNECTICUT — More than 8,000 homes and business are still without power at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, in the aftermath of high winds that raked the region Monday night.

Eversource is reporting 8,605 customers without power, or about 0.67 percent of their total base. There are 113 United Illuminating homes and businesses, or 0.10 percent of their customers, still in the dark.

"Consistent, strong winds with gusts up to 50 miles per hour have been roaring across the state since the storm began last night, bringing down tree limbs and causing significant damage to the electric system," said Eversource president of regional electric operations Craig Hallstrom.

WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons said it will be a "brutal day" Tuesday due to the continuing wind and cold. It will only feel like 15 degrees this afternoon, he said, and the actual temperatures will only reach into the 20s.

"It will warm up tomorrow with some morning clouds and temperatures in the 40s," Simmons said. "Then it gets colder late this week into the weekend. I don’t see any storms through the weekend."

A wind advisory and a hazardous weather outlook remains in effect for Connecticut until 4 p.m. as 50 mph wind gusts are still possible, the National Weather Service said.

"The potential for strong winds to cause additional outages will persist through the day, and we’ll continue to shift resources to the hardest-hit areas as our dedicated employees work non-stop until every customer has their power back," Hallstrom said.
