CT Releases Final Child Rebate Figures

The application period for the state child tax rebate has closed. The majority of eligible families applied for rebates.

CONNECTICUT — About 239,000 applications were filed for the state child tax rebate by the July 31 deadline, according to state officials. The applications represent nearly 370,000 dependents.

The rebate program provides up to $250 per dependent child, up to a maximum of three children per filer.

Applications are being processed by the Department of Revenue Services and checks are expected to go out to qualified applicants starting in late August.

Somewhere between 70 and 80 percent of eligible households applied for the rebate, according to the Connecticut Mirror.

About 56 percent of eligible taxpayers applied for the rebate as of July 26. The program was a rebate and not a tax credit, so anyone who didn't apply by the end of July 31 missed out.

Child tax rebates were part of the state's budget revision, which passed earlier this year. Gov. Ned Lamont has pitched the program as a way to help families during high inflation times.
