CT Sales Tax-Free Week Begins This Weekend: Here's What To Know
Eligible clothing and footwear purchases aren't subject to the sales tax for one week as back-to-school season begins.
HARTFORD, CT — Connecticut's sales tax-free week begins Sunday Aug. 18 and will run through Saturday Aug. 24. Consumers will be able to buy most clothing and footwear items under $100 without having to pay the state 6.35 percent sales tax.
There is no limit to the number of eligible items that can be bought tax free during the week. It is estimated that shoppers will save $4.9 million as the back-to-school season starts, according to Gov. Ned Lamont's office.
“Having this tax-free holiday helps working families stretch their dollar a little bit more during the busy back-to-school season while giving businesses an extra boost to their bottom line,” Lamont said. “I also encourage residents during this busy shopping week to consider locally-owned retailers and supporting Connecticut’s small business community.”
