The number jumped out in the daily report, but the net hospitalization number tends to ebb and flow.

CONNECTICUT — Coronavirus hospitalizations in the state took a nine-patient jump Wednesday up to 65. The last time hospitalizations were that high was on Aug. 10, when 70 were hospitalized.

However, Wednesday’s numbers just reflect one day's worth of data. The state saw a drop of eight patients over the weekend.

Connecticut’s net hospitalization figures tend to ebb and flow, but have generally been dropping slowly or stayed stable for nearly two months. They are also a far cry from the peak, when nearly 2,000 people were hospitalized in mid-April.

Gov. Ned Lamont previously said people shouldn’t read too much into a single day's worth of numbers, especially with the hospitalization rate being so low. Increases in the net hospitalization rate tend to reflect fewer discharges rather than new patients.

The state's positive coronavirus test rate on Wednesday remained below 1 percent. There were 102 positive cases out of 11,634 test results. The state also reported one coronavirus-related death.
