CT Sees Large Coronavirus Hospitalization Drop

The state saw another large drop in the number of coronavirus patients hospitalized. However, there continues to be a high number of deaths.

CONNECTICUT — Connecticut generally continued its coronavirus trends Wednesday with another day of a sub-five percent positive test rate and declining hospitalizations, but dozens of deaths.

There were 2,440 new cases reported Wednesday and a positive test rate of 4.4 percent.

Net hospitalizations declined by 52 patients down to 1,016 currently hospitalized for the virus. The state is on track to be below 1,000 net coronavirus hospitalizations for the first time since Nov. 24.

One thing that hasn’t moved in a better direction is the number of coronavirus-related deaths with 42 new victims announced Wednesday. The state is on track to pass the grim 7,000 death milestone sometime in the next couple of days. There have been nearly 900 coronavirus-related deaths in January to date.
