CT Town-By-Town Power Outages: Electricity Restored To Thousands

More than 31,000 electric customers were without power at one point Monday afternoon, but the majority of customers got power back.

CONNECTICUT — Thunderstorms knocked out power to more than 31,000 electric customers across the state at one point Monday afternoon, but Eversource quickly restored power to the majority of those who lost it.

Eversource reported 31,900 outages (2.4 percent of its customer base) at 2:20 p.m., but outages were reduced to 4,700 as of 3 p.m. and to about 1,100 by 5 p.m.

United Illuminating had only 15 outages as of 5 p.m.

Nearly 60 percent of Norwalk was without power at one point, but it was quickly restored to all the city's customers.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for Fairfield and Litchfield counties.

The National Weather Service said that A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of southern Fairfield and central Westchester Counties through 6 p.m.

"At 507 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Harrison, or over White Plains, moving northeast at 35 mph."

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning until 7:30 p.m. for southern sections of Fairfield County.

"At 535 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly."

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include: Bridgeport, Stamford, Norwalk, New Canaan, Fairfield, Greenwich, Westport, Darien, Wilton, Weston and Easton.

Metro-North said as of 5:15 p.m. the New Haven Line service has resumed, with delays up to 70 minutes. The flooding condition in the Bronx has receded.

In a 6 p.m. update, Metro-North said, "Danbury Branch customers are experiencing delays of 30-35 minutes because of earlier weather-related issues and main line delays. New Canaan Branch customers are experiencing delays of 75-80 minutes because of earlier weather-related issues and main line delays."
