CT Treasurer: $1B Is Waiting To Be Claimed

State officials are urging residents to check Connecticut's unclaimed property list.

The state of Connecticut has more than $1 billion in unclaimed property, and some of it could be yours.

Treasurer Erick Russell said the property ranges from uncashed paychecks to utility deposits to insurance proceeds and old bank accounts.

“In Connecticut alone, we’re holding more than $1 billion in unclaimed property that we want to return to rightful owners,” Russell said. “And this isn’t just individuals—nonprofits, schools, small businesses, even cities and towns may have money waiting.”

The sixth annual “National Unclaimed Property Day” is Feb. 1, and Russell is reminding state residents to see if they have money or unclaimed property.

“While there is no time limit to claim your funds, I encourage everyone to make searching for unclaimed property part of your annual financial routine,” Russell said.
