Accumulating Snow Forecast For Wednesday In CT: Here's How Much To Expect

CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Hartford, Tolland, Windham, and Litchfield counties on Wednesday. Additionally, a winter weather advisory is also in effect for northern sections of Fairfield and New Haven counties.

The weather service is predicting 2–4 inches of snow in Hartford, Tolland, Windham and Litchfield counties before the precipitation changes to plain rain late Wednesday night. Some ice may mix in too before the changeover. Winds could gust up to 40 mph in Litchfield County.

For interior sections of Fairfield and New Haven counties, 2–3 inches of snow is forecast to accumulate and there may be some light-frozen precipitation too, the weather service said. Winds could gust up to 35 mph.

"Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute," the weather service said.

For towns along the immediate coast in southern Connecticut, snow is forecast to fall during the afternoon hours on Wednesday, and sleet and rain may mix in after 4 p.m. Up to an inch of snow and sleet may accumulate. The mixed precipitation will become all rain after 7 p.m., the weather service said.

Temperatures will rise rapidly along the coast, and temperatures may approach 50 degrees Thursday morning. Rain is forecast to be very heavy at the coast and winds could gust up to 34 mph, according to the weather service.

In northern sections of Middlesex County, 1–2 inches of snow is forecast to accumulate Wednesday afternoon, and then it will be plain rain after 10 p.m. Wednesday, the weather service said. Some rain and sleet may mix on Wednesday before the changeover to plain rain.

In northern sections of New London County, less than one inch of snow may accumulate and snow may mix with rain and sleet in the afternoon. The mixed precipitation will change to plain rain after 7 p.m. and some thunder is also possible, the weather service said. Winds could gust over 40 mph in New London County.

The precipitation should end between 7-9 a.m. Thursday. Winds will continue to be strong on Thursday and the temperatures will plummet in the afternoon. On Friday, it will be sunny, with high temperatures around 32 degrees and low temperatures falling into the teens.

Our next chance for snow appears to be Sunday night and Monday, though rain once again may mix in, the weather service said.
