A flood warning has been issued for four counties in Connecticut, and a watch is in effect for the entire state Tuesday.

CONNECTICUT — We needed the rain, and we're definitely getting the rain. A flooding rainstorm has dropped several inches of rain on the state, and it's not over yet.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for the entire state, and a warning has been issued for Fairfield, New Haven, Hartford, and Middlesex counties.

Many communities have already seen over 5 inches of rain.

The rain is expected to taper off Tuesday afternoon. The heavy rain diminishes around midday.

"We can expect to see at least an additional two to three inches of rain from this point through this afternoon in some towns here in Connecticut," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologist Scot Haney. "We should see the heaviest of the rain fall until noontime today. Flooding could occur at anytime during the flood watch, which doesn’t expire until 5 PM. Flash flooding is expected to be isolated through the day, as most of the rain we’re getting is beneficial and will be spread over a sufficient amount of time. Showers will continue through this evening as dry air starts to get pulled southward. Showers will try to keep going into Wednesday." (Watch the WFSB 3 TV weather forecast update here).
