The National Weather Service cautioned it may feel like 100 degrees, which is bad news for the nearly 90,000 people without power.

CONNECTICUT — There were still nearly 90,000 Connecticut residents without power Monday morning, and we're about to embark on another heat wave.

A heat advisory was issued for the entire state Monday except the coastal areas of Middlesex and New London counties, but it will still be plenty warm here, too.

Due to the heat and humidity this week, there will be a small chance of showers and storms almost daily, though the unsettled weather will be more isolated than widespread.

For Fairfield, New Haven and northern sections of Middlesex and New London counties, the weather service said the heat advisory remains in effect from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

We can expect heat index values up to 97 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

"A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time," the weather service said. "Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures. Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning. Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors.

"To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 9 1 1."

For northern Connecticut, the heat advisory is in effect from noon today until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

WTNH News 8 Chief Meteorologist Gil Simmons said "Hazy, hot and humid with afternoon temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The heat index will be up around 100°. Please be careful as the Air quality will be lower today. #hydrate A spotty thunderstorm possible, but not much! The same exact weather is expected for tomorrow! Showers and thunderstorms will try to get a little more widespread later this week as temperatures settle to the 80s."
