CT Weather: Heavy Rain Moves In As Drought Conditions Continue

After weeks of no rain, it appears Connecticut could see days of precipitation later this week. Here's when and how much to expect.

CONNECTICUT — Connecticut desperately needs rain and after seemingly weeks of no precipitation, that will fortunately change this week in Connecticut.

The entire state is either "below-normal" or at "incipient drought" levels. And beginning late Tuesday, it appears the state will see heavy rain and possibly up to 2 inches of precipitation before it tapers off Thursday. More rain showers are possible Friday and the upcoming weekend looks perfect, with the return of sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60s.

It will be humid and mild Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

"Outside of any morning fog and drizzle, a few showers will be possible today and tonight," the weather service said. "High temperatures will be in the 70s ... A cold front will slowly approach the region on Tuesday, allowing for the potential for additional showers. High temperatures will again rise into the 70s."

The weather service said that the "most significant rain is expected Wednesday night. Showers should become widespread with a wave of low pressure Wednesday night. Conditions should dry out Thursday morning as the energy and low lift quickly to the northeast."

Update on CT's current drought conditions:

STAGE 1 -- BELOW NORMAL CONDITIONS for Fairfield, New Haven, and Middlesex counties

Residents and businesses in Stage 1 locations should be alert to the potential for worsening conditions and be prepared to follow state or local conservation guidelines if issued.

STAGE 2 -- INCIPIENT DROUGHT for Hartford, Litchfield, New London, Tolland, and Windham counties

Residents and businesses in Stage 2 locations are asked to voluntarily take the following measures to aid in minimizing future drought impact:

Reduce outdoor irrigation and other non-essential outdoor uses of water

Postpone the planting of any new lawns or vegetation (if new plantings cannot be postponed, consider drought-tolerant species)

Minimize overall water use by fixing leaky plumbing and fixtures

Follow conservation requests or mandates issued by public water systems, municipalities, or state agencies
