Latest Nor'easter Forecast Updates Released For CT: Here's What You Need To Know

There is some good news in the weather forecast. We may hit 70 degrees by the middle of next week. We deserve some nice weather.

CONNECTICUT — A nor'easter storm is forecast to bring rain to Connecticut by around midday Friday and the rain is expected to stick around through much of Saturday, though some breaks from the rain are likely on Saturday, according to the latest updates from the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorms are also possible on Friday and Saturday, and once the precipitation ends for good on Saturday night, the winds kick up and could gust up to 35 mph on Sunday as the coastal low pulls away.

The news isn't all bad when it comes to the extended weather forecast, as sunshine and warmer temperatures are on the horizon next week from Monday through Thursday, according to the weather service. We could approach 70 degrees by next Thursday.

"As the storm from the west approaches, energy from it transfers off the Mid-Atlantic coast, where another area of low pressure develops," WFSB 3 TV meteorologists Mike Slifer with Scot Haney. "This brings showers this morning, which then ramp up in coverage and intensity through the afternoon. Periods of rain will continue on and off through the evening, tapering to showers late tonight. The rain will be heavier today rather than tomorrow, so we’ve declared a First Alert for both days, today and tomorrow. A few rumbles of thunder may even be possible at times! Highs will be in the mid and upper 60s. It’s a good idea to have a backup plan in place if you were going to be out this evening." (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).

Rain will develop in western portions of the state by late morning, and there may be some "moderate rainfall." Thunderstorms are also possible.

The weather service said there is "some uncertainty with how heavy the rain will be on Saturday, but right now, it looks like with conditions tapering off from southwest to northeast by Saturday evening."

"As the low continues to strengthen, the pressure gradient will increase across the region, allowing for breezy conditions late in the day Saturday into Saturday night, with even stronger
winds for Sunday. However, winds look to remain below Wind Advisory criteria for now. Peak winds look to occur Sunday afternoon, with gusts to around 35 mph," according to the weather service.

Up to 1.5 inches of rain is forecast, and the most rain is predicted to fall in southwest Connecticut.

"Locally heavy downpours with any embedded thunderstorms could produce nuisance flooding of urban and poor drainage areas. However, antecedent dry conditions will preclude widespread
flooding," the weather service said.

In Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties, the weather service said the storm "will bring scattered to numerous showers today, focused mainly across western MA/CT."

"Looking like a wet day in western MA/CT. Scattered showers are possible this morning across the rest of the interior as the leading edge of this higher moisture moves in...There is some elevated instability in western New Eng this afternoon so can`t rule out an isolated t-storm along with heavy downpours," the weather service said.

"This is a dynamic system with strong large scale forcing developing which will bring widespread showers and isolated t-storms and locally heavy rainfall given the marginal elevated instability. Bulk of the showers through this evening will remain focused in western (New England)," the weather service added.

Rainfall of up to 1.5 inches is expected, the weather service said. The weather service said the rain should end by 8 p.m. Saturday, and that is when the gusty winds take over. Winds are forecast to gust up to 35 mph.
