Timeline For Severe Thunderstorms, 60 MPH Wind Gusts, Large Hail Released For CT
It's going to be a very stormy start to CT's 4th of July holiday weekend. Here's when and what to expect as severe storms are forecast.
CONNECTICUT — Severe thunderstorms, nearly 60 mph wind gusts and large hail are all possible Saturday afternoon, according to the latest update from the National Weather Service.
A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Connecticut until 9 p.m., the weather service said Saturday afternoon.
"Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening," the weather service said, concerning southern Connecticut. "Damaging winds in excess of 58 mph, hail (around 1 inch diameter), frequent lightning, and locally heavy rain are possibly with any thunderstorm."

And for northern Connecticut, the weather service wrote, "There is a low risk for a few strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and early evening. Strong to damaging winds, large hail and torrential downpours are the main concern with the strongest storms."
Some areas across the state heard strong storms early Saturday, and those will dissipate throughout the morning. The weather service said the best chance for severe storms is in the middle of the afternoon, but strong storms could linger into the evening hours.

"During the afternoon and evening hours, atmospheric instability along this (cold) front is expected to peak, resulting in the development of strong-to-severe thunderstorms centered over the I-95 corridor," explained AccuWeather Meteorologist Adam Sadvary.
"The primary threats from these storms will be damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours, which can lead to localized flash flooding; however, hail cannot be ruled out," added Sadvary. (Read more forecast details at Accuweather.com).
Once the stormy weather departs, Sunday and Monday both look like great summer days.
