CT Weather: Snow Accumulation Estimates Increase As Winter Storm Watch Issued

Snow accumulation estimates are on the rise for Connecticut's next storm. Here's when to expect the snow and how much is forecast.

In an update, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon for Fairfield County.

"Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches possible," the weather service said concerning Fairfield County. "Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions may impact the Friday evening commute."

Also in an update, a hazardous weather outlook has been issued for New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties. "A winter storm system will affect the region Friday afternoon through Saturday morning with an accumulating, plowable snow."

A total of 3 to 7 inches of snow is possible here, but the most accumulation is forecast in western parts of the region and much less in far eastern parts of southern Connecticut, according to the weather service.

For example, Milford is forecast to receive 3 to 7 inches of snow, while New London is only forecast to receive 1 to 3 inches of snow.

In Hartford and Tolland counties, 2 to 4 inches of snow is forecast, according to the National Weather Service:

Friday night: Snow likely, mainly after 9pm. Cloudy, with a low around 19. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Saturday: A chance of snow, mainly before 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 30. Northeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Windham County snow forecast details via the weather service:

Friday Night: Snow likely, mainly after 10pm. Cloudy, with a low around 17. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday: A chance of snow, mainly before 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 29. Northeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.


Litchfield County snow forecast details via the weather service:

Friday: A slight chance of snow after 1pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 24. Wind chill values as low as zero. North wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night: Snow. Low around 16. Calm wind becoming east around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Saturday: A chance of snow, mainly before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 26. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
