CT Weather: Temps Near 100 Degrees Sunday, Heat Advisory Issued

The National Weather Service said the heat index will make it feel like its hotter than 100 degrees Sunday, Monday.

CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook and a heat advisory for the state of Connecticut Sunday and Monday.

Temps could approach 100 degrees and the heat index will make it feel even hotter. No relief is expected until Wednesday when storms may break up the excessive heat and humidity.

For southern Connecticut, the weather service said, the heat advisory remains in effect from noon until 8 p.m. Monday.

"Heat index values around 100...From noon today to 8 PM EDT Monday... IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur."

For northern Connecticut, the weather service said, a heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday. "Heat index values up to 101 expected....WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 8 PM EDT Monday....IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur."

Here are some safety tips via the weather service:

"Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

"Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1."
