Timeline For Strong-To-Severe Thunderstorms Released For CT On Saturday

Thunderstorms will roll through Connecticut on Saturday, here's when you can expect them. A hazardous weather outlook has been issued.

CONNECTICUT — WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons shared a graphic on Twitter that illustrates how thunderstorms will be arriving around 2 p.m. in far western parts of the state and move through the entire state from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

That three-hour window seems to be the time when we can expect thunderstorms on Saturday, which could feature strong wind, heavy downpours and possibly hail.

The National Weather Service said in a hazardous weather outlook for inland sections of southern Connecticut that "A slow moving cold front will bring the potential for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms late this morning into the mid to late afternoon, along with an isolated flash flood threat."

And in northern Connecticut, the weather service said in a hazardous weather outlook, "Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across much of the interior this afternoon into the evening. Timing wise the risk looks highest between 12-6 PM. The main threats with any stronger storms are damaging wind gusts and small hail."

Once the storms pass, the remainder of the Memorial Day weekend looks great with sunshine forecast Sunday and temperatures around 80 degrees and more sun on Memorial Day with temperatures around 90 degrees.

Accuweather.com reminds us just how bad the weather was for the 2021 Memorial Day holiday weekend.

"Anything is better than last year’s wet and exceedingly chilly Memorial Day weekend people in the Northeast endured last year," AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore said. "But this year the weather will vastly improve and warm up as the weekend unfolds." Temperatures on Friday and Saturday of Memorial Day weekend 2021 were in the 40s and 50s in CT, which was an "uncomfortable 20-25 degrees below average," Accuweather.com notes.
