CT Weather: Thunderstorms, Showers Today And Into Saturday

Severe weather will be just off to Connecticut's west on Friday but we may still see some thunderstorms and rain showers. Here's when.

CONNECTICUT — Before we head into the weekend it appears Connecticut may see some thunderstorms Friday and rain showers Friday evening and through Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service said for southern Connecticut, "A low pressure system slowly approaches the area today allowing for the chance of showers to increase through the day with some thunderstorms becoming possible in the afternoon.

"The chance of showers persists into the early morning on Saturday ahead of a slow moving cold front that will eventually pass through the area during the day. Clearing and cooling will take place behind the cold frontal passage by Saturday evening. Highs Saturday will be in the middle to upper 70s."

In northern sections of the state, the weather service said for tonight that the "Threat of isolated strong thunderstorms producing heavy downpours and gusty winds over Western MA/CT ...

"High pressure remains well offshore with a warm, moist south to southwest flow of air over the region. A cold front will move through Friday night and Saturday, bringing a chance of showers
and a few thunderstorms. A dry and cooler air mass moves in behind the front on Sunday and lingers for early next week. Another weather system may bring scattered showers midweek."

WTNH News 8 Chief Meteorologist Gil Simmons said on his social media Friday morning that the severe weather is just to our west today and as of right now Connecticut is on the fringes and may see an isolated thunderstorm or rain shower along with fog.

Fox 61 Meteorologist Dan Amarante said on his social media, "Storms will pop up later today, mainly across parts of PA & NY. While not a gigantic severe weather threat, some of those storms could pack a punch. It's unlikely that CT gets into any big storms, but it is possible."

The good news is that Saturday looks to improve as the day goes on and Sunday looks great with sunshine and temps in the 70s.
