CONNECTICUT — CVS this week added another 7o Hartford jobs to an already massive playoff plan that began this week in Connecticut.

The additional cuts were disclosed in a letter dated Thursday addressed to the Connecticut Department of Labor and Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin from Jennifer Bailey, the executive director for colleague relations at CVS.

The 500 layoffs from the August announcement began on Oct. 21, according to the letter.

"We now write to advise that the company will be giving notice to an additional number of employees on or about October 23, 2023, that their termination will occur on December 30, 2023," the letter said.

The new cuts affect employees CVS' 151 Farmington Ave. location in Hartford, according to the letter.

The layoffs, in total, are affecting employees who work — and live — in Connecticut, along with "a significant number" of employees who work remotely but, for work purposes, report into a "leader" located in Connecticut, according to the letter.

In accordance with the federal Worker Adjustment Retraining and Notification Act, the remote employees are treated as being "assigned" to a Connecticut location, according to the letter.

Out of the 500 announced layoffs, 336 positions involve Connecticut residents, according to the letter. The job eliminations are permanent, according to the letter.

A list of eliminated jobs was included with the letter to state and Hartford officials.

On Sept. 20, CVS closed a store at 978 Farmington Avenue in West Hartford. It was one of seven in that town. CVS officials said that existing workers at that store would be offered "comparable roles" at other CVS locations. It was not clear whether any of those workers lost their jobs in this week's layoffs.
