Doctors Fined After Bristol Hospital Patient Dies Of Sepsis
Two doctors were fined by the state Medical Examining Board in connection with a case that was the subject of a malpractice lawsuit.
BRISTOL, CT — Two Bristol Hospital Emergency Department doctors were fined this week by the state Medical Examining Board for failing to diagnose and treat a patient with sepsis who later died, according to the Connecticut Health I-Team.
Lisa Backus of the Connecticut Health I-Team reports Dr. Syed Hadi and Dr. Waile Ramadan were both fined $5,000 and have completed coursework in infection control in connection with the case, which was the subject of a malpractice lawsuit.
Officials with Bristol Hospital clarified that Hadi and Ramadan were not Bristol Hospital employees and served as hospitalists with Starling Physicians.

“Both physicians named in the case were not Bristol Hospital emergency department doctors, nor was there ever a claim of care issues in our Emergency Care Center," according to a statement from Bristol Hospital. "Both physicians were members of an outside physician group, Starling Physicians. Neither doctor currently has privileges on our medical staff, nor has Starling Physicians provided inpatient hospitalist services to Bristol Hospital since 2019. Those facts do not make the loss of the patient in question any easier.
"Despite three years having passed, our collective heart still breaks for the family and we continue to extend our condolences to them for their loss. Bristol Health has an unwavering commitment to delivering the safest, highest quality care to all patients. It is the top priority across our organization. A focus on safety begins the very moment an employee is hired, immediately participating in safety training at orientation as well as an annual refresher course. We begin each weekday with a system-wide safety huddle to discuss challenges and brainstorm remedies of any potential safety concern before it reaches the patient. Over 1,100 days have passed since Bristol Hospital’s last serious safety event and we are proud to be the No.1-ranked hospital in Connecticut in terms of preventing hospital-acquired infections. In all, Bristol Health’s commitment to safety has kept approximately 400,000 patients safe from serious preventable harm during this stretch.”
