Drivers Can Soon Expect Lane Closures And Delays On Berlin Turnpike
Turnpike drivers to expect lane closures and delays beginning Aug. 1.

‘Tis road work season and drivers who frequent the Berlin Turnpike can expect lane closures and delays to begin Aug. 1.

The State Department of Transportation (DOT) is replacing and upgrading traffic signals and related equipment at 15 intersections along Rt. 5/15, in the towns of Newington, Berlin and Wethersfield.
DOT Project 0007-0250 was awarded to Ducci Electrical Contractors at a cost of $9.94 million this spring. Federal funds are covering 80% and the state is picking up the remaining 20% of the project cost.

Site work is set to start in August and will include trenching, backfilling, the installation of new conduits, fiber optic cable and mast arms along with video detection and hand holes. Pedestrian sidewalk ramps and push buttons will also be upgraded.
The work is expected to be completed by May 28, 2022.
The specific intersections along Rt. 5/15 that will be upgraded are as follows: Nott Street, Rt. 314, Pawtucket Avenue, Arrow Road and Pent Road, Rt. 287 (East Robbins Avenue and Prospect Street, Kitts Lane and Superior Avenue, DOT Headquarters North Driveway, DOT Headquarters South Driveway, Rt. 176 (Main Street) and Griswoldville Avenue, Pascone Place, Rt. 173 (Richard Street) and Deming Street, Lowe’s Driveway and Target Driveway, Pane Road, Webster Street, Selden Street and Rowley Street.
Lane closures on the Turnpike itself can be anticipated Mon.-Fri. 6 p.m.-6 a.m. and Sat.-Sun. 6 p.m.-10 a.m. Ramps, turning roadways and other streets along the project corridor will see lane closures Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m.-3 p.m., or alternatively, 6 p.m.-6 a.m. and Sat.-Sun. 6 p.m.-10 a.m.
