Federal Court Security Officers To Lose Jobs: Contractor
A contractor with the U.S. government announced recently the layoffs of several court officers in Bridgeport, New Haven and Hartford.
BRIDGEPORT/HARTFORD/NEW HAVEN, CT — Federal court employees in Bridgeport, Hartford and New Haven, most of them security guards, will lost their jobs next month, according to a recent announcement.
According to a notice from Centerra Co., a security services contractor that works for the government, 63 workers in the U.S. 2nd Circuit Court will lose their jobs.
Centerra notified the state Department of Labor last week of the situation, saying the company's contract with the federal government ends Sept. 30.

The notification of the impending layoffs is required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN), according to the letter sent to the Connecticut DOL.
"This separation from employment is expected to be permanent and employees will not have bumping rights to another position. Employees will be paid through the last date of employment in accordance with state law," reads the notice.

The impacted federal courthouses are: Bridgeport, 915 Lafayette Blvd.; Hartford, 405 Main St.; and New Haven, 157 Church St., 157 Main St. and 141 Church St.
Those losing their jobs are 59 court security officers, one district supervisor, two lead court security officers and one senior lead court security officer.
