Final CIAC Championships Of Spring 2023 Decided In Track And Field
The boys decathlon, girls heptathlon, steeplechase and hammer throw competitions took place over the past three days at Willow Brook Park.

NEW BRITAIN, CT — The final state championships for spring 2023 were decided at Veterans Stadium in Willow Brook Park Wednesday, as the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) concluded three days of track and field competition in the boys decathlon, girls heptathlon, steeplechase and hammer throw events.
The victory platform in the multi-event competition was crowded with repeat winners. Joshua Mooney of Stonington compiled 6,680 points to win the 10-event decathlon for the second straight year, while Audrey Kozak of Shelton captured her second consecutive 7-event heptathlon with 4,442 points.
Hammer throw winners were Dylan Sheehan of Old Lyme (206-07) and Elizabeth Sorensen of Coginchaug (141-06). Champions of the 2,000 meter steeplechase were Matthew Kraszewski of Hale Ray (6:32.69) and Hannah Stephenson of Farmington (7:24.84), while Soheib Dissa of Newtown claimed the boys 3,000 meter steeplechase crown (9:27.43).
