Final Four Matchups Set In Soccer, Volleyball, Field Hockey

Pairings have been set for the semifinal rounds of the CIAC state boys and girls soccer, girls volleyball and field hockey tournaments.

Final Four excitement is upon us, as high school teams from across Connecticut prepare for semifinal matchups in the CIAC state soccer, girls volleyball and field hockey tournaments beginning Monday.

Here are some facts and figures about the 60 teams still in the hunt for state championships.

A total of 48 schools will be represented in the semifinals, with Daniel Hand of Madison leading the way with three teams (boys soccer, girls soccer and field hockey). Ten schools each have two teams bidding to reach state title games:

  • Avon (boys soccer, field hockey)
  • Darien (volleyball, field hockey)
  • East Hampton (girls soccer, volleyball)
  • Glastonbury (boys soccer, girls soccer)
  • Immaculate (girls soccer, field hockey)
  • Morgan (boys soccer, girls soccer)
  • Staples (girls soccer, field hockey)
  • Stonington (boys soccer, field hockey)
  • Watertown (boys soccer, girls soccer)
  • Weston (girls soccer, volleyball)

The breakdown of qualifiers by county is:

  • Hartford, 16
  • Fairfield, 13
  • New Haven, 12
  • Middlesex, 6
  • New London, 4
  • Tolland, 4
  • Litchfield, 3
  • Windham, 2

Nine No. 1 seeds remain, with volleyball being the only sport to have all four top seeds still alive (Southington, Woodstock Academy, Seymour and SMSA). The lowest ranked team remaining is Plainville boys soccer, the No. 23 seed in Class M.

Of the 15 tournaments, the only one to feature the top four seeds in the semifinals is Class L volleyball (Woodstock Academy, Joel Barlow, RHAM and Bristol Eastern).
