First Lady Jill Biden Visits New Haven Summer Learning Program
Jill Biden and Education Secretary Miguel Cardona visited students in New Haven as part of their national summer learning tour.

CONNECTICUT — First Lady Jill Biden and Education Secretary Miguel Cardona visited students at Horizons summer learning program at Albertus Magnus College for New Haven elementary school students. Biden and Cardona’s visit was part of their national summer learning tour.
“It was so hard to learn over Zoom, don’t you think,” Biden said to several nods from the elementary schoolers.
She explained part of the American Rescue Plan Act’s goal was to catch up kids on learning in the most fun way possible, which led to programs like Horizon’s.

New Haven has used $3.5 million of American Rescue Plan funding to invest in summer camps, youth employment and other learning activities for students. More than 4,000 students of all ages have taken part in summer learning and enrichment programs.
Gov. Ned Lamont thanked the teachers and students for taking part in the program.

“I just want you to know that we all love you, and we’re so proud that you’re here,” Lamont said. “...and I think we have great dreams for each and every one of you.”
