Flaming Green Meteorites, And Other UFOs Above CT In 2020

In case you missed it, sky watchers reported a "fleet" of alien spacecraft over Connecticut in September. Here's that recap, and more...

CONNECTICUT, CT — New England is a favorite haunt of space aliens, or maybe our skies are just a shortcut to a shopping district popular among the extraterrestrial community. Either way, there's no denying we get more than our fair share of visits from beyond.

Those sightings end up in the database of the National UFO Reporting Center, where they are parsed, classified, categorized and mulled over by amateur sky watchers and professional ufologists alike. Very often the sightings can be traced to meteorological phenomena, military exercises, or too much tequila. But it's not unusual to find reports not so easily dismissed, and with the Pentagon having owned up to the existence of UFOs earlier this year, you can probably expect more shrugs and fewer cover-ups in 2021.

In Connecticut, the "big one" in 2020 came in the form of a sighting of no less than a "fleet" of alien spacecraft, spotted over Old Saybrook around 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 19. The report was picked up by the international press. Up to nine lights appeared in the sky for around three minutes. Researchers were "stunned by the organization of the UFOs," according to Express UK. Veteran ufologist Scott Waring was impressed how the spacemen seemed to be watching out for one another, reminiscent of the behavior of Terran military pilots' behavior toward their wingmen.

In July of this year, another alien "fleet" was sighted above Cockaponset State Forest in Chester by some mountain bikers. As they made their way back to their cars, they saw three cigar-shaped objects hovering in the sky, and took some pictures.

"They were dark oblong shapes with some lights. Nothing bright and we didn't hear any noise. They didn’t move for several minutes," the eyewitnesses posted to Waring's ET Database.

According to New England Today, recorded UFO sightings in this neck of the woods date back to 1639, when Massachusetts Bay Colony governor John Winthrop made a diary entry about a secondhand observation. A "great light" in the sky flared up and deposited a boat full of his associates a mile upstream with no memory of how they got there.

The most famous sighting above Connecticut proper is probably the 1987 report of a "football field sized" craft above Newtown, passing close to Interstate 84. The sighting was reported by more than 200 people between 9:30 and 10:15 p.m. on May 26. The official explanation from the state police at the time was that the object was a group of ultralight aircraft with colored lanterns flying in formation. Eyewitness Randy Etting, a commercial airline pilot with over 30 years experience, called that explanation "the prattling of idiots." There were at least eight lights of different colors flying very close together, and without sound, according to Etting, who watched the UFO with his neighbors for over ten minutes as it slowly drifted to the northwest.

More recent Connecticut sightings posted to the NUARC database include this one, which stars a "de-flaming green meteorite" over Shelton, uploaded Nov. 5:

"I came to a stop sign with my friend after dropping another friend off at their house. As we stopped at the stop sign at 11:00 pm we saw a green Meteorite over a field called “Stowe field” in shelton ct, it came down from the sky, extremely bright, not even a second later this green meteorite basically de- flames itself if that’s even a word, and we both see this spacecraft just hovering, grey in color with green outlines, almost looked identical to a fighter jet from Star Wars, then me and my friend not even blinking an eye see this spacecraft disappear into thin air and it vanishes, I would say some kind of warp drive system as silly as it sounds."

Not so silly at all, if you, like the Pentagon, have already bought into the notion of extraterrestrial life. Proxima b, the planet closest to ours with the best shot of hosting intelligent life, is still 4.2 light years from here. Whether it's warp drive or something even faster, these out-of-state commuters are clearly taking something other than the local to get here.

Say what you want about social media, but a generation raised with a camera in their back pocket encouraged to share photos and videos of everything can only be bad news for space aliens hoping to hover around Connecticut on the down-low. On Sept. 10 over Storrs, someone reported a UFO stumbled into their shoot:

It had just rained and the clouds were gray and full. I decided to take a short video of the cloud formations for a Tik-Tok video. I filmed the clouds for a few second then went home. I was walking from my class at Uconn. I forgot about the video until the next morning. When I watched it I noticed a craft flying through my scene so rapidly and when I enlarged it the boxy shape looked like nothing I’d ever seen before. I noticed it hovered for a brief second then sped into the clouds and disappeared. When I slowed down the footage it was still moving very fast but I could clearly see it stopped in mid-air for a fraction of a second then continued. I showed it to a pilot from Delta that I knew and he said it truly looked like something not from this world so I decided to report it... I did not see it with my naked eye or notice it however when I watched the footage and especially when I slowed it down there was a strange sound that was in the background, almost like a zoom and a whoosh that could have been used on a sound track to indicate fast flight. There was no sonic boom or anything detected on the ground from the sidewalk. I was in the center of Storrs Center near CVS pharmacy.

A veteran living in Broad Brook, reporting on Sept. 20, said he knows military aircraft when he sees them. This wasn't one:

The craft flew over my condo complex approximately one hundred meters above me traveling at around 150 miles an hour. The shape was round with a slight glowing orb around it. It was about ten to fifteen meters in diameter and produced no sound at all. Being in combat arms in the US for just over ten years. This was not from here.
