Friday Mega Millions Jackpot Topping $420 Million

CONNECTICUT — The final Mega Millions drawing for January is turning out to be a big one worth more than $420 million.

An estimated $421 million jackpot (that's a cash value of $290.9 million) is up for grabs on Friday after no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night – the white balls 3, 12, 38, 53 and 58, plus the gold Mega Ball 13.

If won, the jackpot would be the 13th largest in the 20-year history of the game.

The current jackpot has been rolling since it was won at $108 million in Arizona on Oct 22. That was the last of six jackpots awarded in 2021, ranging from $55 million to $1.05 billion.

The Jan. 25 drawing featured 991,225 winning tickets at all prize levels. Two tickets matched the five white balls to win the game's second prize. One, sold in Rhode Island, is worth $3 million because it included the optional Megaplier (a $1 extra purchase available in most states), which was 3 times Tuesday night. The other ticket matching five numbers, sold in Texas, is a $1 million winner.

Twenty-six tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball to win the game’s third prize. Four of those are worth $30,000 each because they also included the optional Megaplier. The other 22 third-prize tickets were worth $10,000 each.

Since the jackpot was last won in Arizona on October 22, there have been more than 15 million winning tickets at all prize levels, including 35 worth $1 million or more. The second-tier prizes have been won in 17 different states across the country — California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee and Texas.

Drawings occur Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. On drawing nights, wagering closes at 10:45 p.m. and reopens at 11:15 p.m.
