CONNECTICUT — Connecticut-based Guida’s Dairy was sued in connection with contaminated milk that sent New Jersey students to the hospital last month.

The lawsuit blames Guida-Seibert Dairy Company after sanitizer-contaminated milk was served to preschool-aged children in Camden City schools on March 30. More than 40 people were sent to the hospital and all children were released the same day.

Three parents are currently involved in the lawsuit against Guida-Seibert Dairy Company, Samuel D. Jackson, the parents’ attorney told Patch. That number may increase in the future.

"It's very early in the lawsuit, but we are seeking to make the parents and the children whole for the damages that they suffered," he said, adding that one parent told him she lost her job to stay home to take care of her child who was sickened by the contaminated milk.

Guida’s said in a statement safety is a top priority at the company and that all quality issues are dealt with immediately, but didn’t comment specifically on the pending litigation, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.

The Connecticut Department of Agriculture launched an investigation after the incident. A preliminary investigation found that contamination was limited to milk cartons processed during a specific time frame and that the milk had a limited distribution to commercial customers in New Jersey. The affected milk wasn’t sold in grocery stores.
