Hartford Man Arrested In ‘Elaborate Scam’ To Steal Over $33K From Thomaston Savings Bank: PD

THOMASTON, CT — A Hartford man is accused of stealing more than $33,000 from a local bank.

On Wednesday, police arrested Bryan David Sheriff, 25, of 56 West Morningside St., Hartford, on a warrant.

Det. Jason St. Onge said the arrest follows a complaint police received June 18, when Thomaston Savings Bank’s fraud department contacted police about a possible fraud.

An investigation revealed an “elaborate scam” involving forgery, identity theft, and impersonation, police said.

Police said they uncovered fraudulent bank withdrawals totaling over $33,000.

Sheriff was charged with first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, trafficking personal identifying information, first-degree identity theft, first-degree forgery, and false statement to procure issuance of payment card.

Sheriff was held on a $250,000 bond pending his arraignment Wednesday.

Thomaston police have an additional outstanding arrest warrant for a co-conspirator, police said.

In addition to bank officials and local police, Watertown police, the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S, Treasury Department cooperated in the investigation.
