Hartford Responders Having Bear Of Time Freeing Creature From Tree

HARTFORD, CT — The capital city's fire department and police force had an usual Saturday morning as they worked to free a bear stuck in a tree in the city.

According to the City of Hartford Fire Department FaceBook page, units were at 151 Hillside Ave. in Hartford tending to the situation.

Photos posted on Facebook show a bear perched high up in a tree, above a black, metal fence along the roadway.

Responding authorities closed a sidewalk there and put up yellow police tape to keep people away and safe.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, which began at about 11 a.m., Hartford firefighters did exercise a bit of a sense of humor.

"Don't worry Smokey, we'll get you down safely," reads a post.

In addition to police and fire responders, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is on the scene as well.

NBC CT reported that the bear ended up coming down on its own, and was tranquilized and moved by the DEEP.
