Heating Assistance and Access Health Open Enrollment

From Matt Lesser

With our first snowstorm of the fall behind us, I think it’s important to highlight some ways to help you heat your home at an affordable price throughout the cold winter months ahead. The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) is a great way to keep your home warm and keep some cash in your pocket.

The CEAP is designed to help offset the winter heating costs of Connecticut's lower-income households, specifically those households whose income falls at or below 60 percent of the state median income. The state Department of Social Services administers the CEAP, in collaboration with community action agencies across Connecticut.

This program pays a portion of an eligible household’s primary heating source, whether it’s oil, natural gas, electricity, propane, kerosene, coal, wood or wood pellets. Additionally, households eligible for this program may also be eligible to receive weatherization assistance, which can assist in conserving energy and lowering heating bills. It’s important to note, the amount of heat assistance the CEAP pays may not be sufficient to cover a household’s entire winter heating cost.
